About this recipe

Teen Dal is a regular day to day dish. It is a delight for vegetarians as well as non vegetarians.

Required ingredients

  • ½ cup chana dal
  • ½ cup urad dal
  • ¼ cup moong dal
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1 medium tomato sliced
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp amchur powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala powder
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • 2-3 tbsp mustard oil or any other

Directions & How to

  • Wash and soak the dals for 2 hours.
  • Pressure cook the dals in about 2 cups of water along with bay leaf, salt and turmeric powder for 2 whistles on high heat and then 10-15 minutes on simmer. The dals should be very tender.
  • Heat mustard oil in a deep sauce pan. Add sliced onions and fry till golden and crispy.
  • Next add the tomatoes and cook till they turn mushy. Then add ginger garlic paste and sauté for few seconds till cooked.
  • Add all the masala powders and 2 tbsp of water mix well. Add the boiled dal; mix well and simmer for 5 minutes. Check seasonings.
  • Serve with roti.
