Kaju Keema, a spicy minced meat preparation tossed with whole cashew kernels…a main course dish best served with naans or any other Indian breads.

Required ingredients

  • ½ kg Minced meat - you can use any ground meat as per your choice mutton, beef or lamb.
  • 2 medium onions sliced
  •  2 tomatoes chopped
  • 1/2 cup cashew nut
  • 4-5 green chillies chopped
  •  1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup beaten yoghurt
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • Salt as per taste
  • ½ cup fresh coriander and mint leaves

Directions & How to

  • Heat around 2 cups of water, when it comes to a boil add cashew nuts and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from flame and let it soak in the same water for 10-15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan, add  cumin seeds, when it crackles add onions and fry it till golden brown. Add chopped tomatoes, green chillies, ginger garlic paste and saute well.
  • Add minced meat and fry it well, stirring continuously, breaking up any lumps if formed.
  •  Mix turmeric powder, pepper powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, yoghurt and salt. Stir well and let it cook on slow flame for around 15 minutes. Add around half a  cup of water if needed.
  • Drain the cashews and add it to the minced meat, sprinkle garam masala powder and lemon juice and cook it for further 5-6 minutes.
  • Serve hot garnished with fresh coriander and mint  leaves.
