About this recipe
Meat Ball Frankie is a popular street food. It is filling, tasty and can be made with anything and that’s what makes it so popular.
Required ingredients
- 2/3 cup whole wheat flour
- 2/3 cup all purpose flour (maida)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp oil
- Water to knead the dough
- Oil to shallow fry roti
- Meat ball mince (see recipe Potato Meat balls)
- ¼ cup mint chutney
- ½ cup shredded cabbage
- ¼ cup chopped onions
- 2 eggs , lightly beaten
- Oil to deep fry
- Frankie masala, as required
- 1 tsp cumin powder,
- 1 tsp coriander
- ½ tsp pomegranate seeds powder
- ½ tsp dry mango powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
- A pinch asafetida
- A pinch turmeric powder (optional)
Directions & How to
- Take both the flours in a large glass bowl; add salt and mix.
- Rub in 2 tbsp oil and add enough water (about 2/3 cup) to knead soft dough. Cover and keep aside for 15 minutes.
- Make 6 equal sized smooth balls. Press lightly into flour and roll out a ½ cm thick roti. Place it on heated tawa and flip the side after 20-30 seconds and cook the other side for 30 seconds and remove it. Cover and keep aside for later use.
- Shape the meat balls as per your wish and deep fry till golden and crisp.
- Heat a non stick tawa and place the roti on it. Flip the side and brush eggs on it 2-3 times so that it forms a layer. Add ½ tsp oil on the tawa and fry till golden on both sides.
- Transfer the roti onto a plate (the egg side facing up), place 3 meat balls in middle of the roti. Add cabbage, onion, green chutney and sprinkle 2 pinch frankie masala. Roll the roti tightly and cover half of it with aluminum foil.
- Serve hot with tomato sauce.
- Mix together all powder spices and keep in an airtight container. Use as and when required.
