Kaiserschmarrn ( caramalised shredded pancake) is an extremely delicious Austrian dish. It is spongy buttery pancake, served with fruit preserve or fruit sauce.
Required ingredients
- 1 cup maida (refined flour)
- 2 tbsp. raisins, soaked for ½ an hour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 pinch baking soda
- ¼ cup sugar, powdered
- 2 tbsp. butter plus 1 tbsp. melted
- 1 cup milk
- 3 eggs
- Salt a pinch
- ½ tsp vanilla essence
Directions & How to
- In a mixing bowl, beat together the milk, sugar, vanilla, baking soda and salt. Gradually whisk in the flour to make a smooth batter and add raisins.
- In a big frying pan heat butter and add the whole batter and cook till the underside is browned. Turn over the pancake and cook further until this is also golden brown.
- Tear the pancake into small bits and put on medium heat again. Drizzle melted butter and powdered sugar.
- Stir lightly till the sugar has caramelized. Serve with apple sauce.
