Kadhao gosht is a  traditional, authentic northern Indian  country side dish ideal for weekend lunch or winter dinner.Served  with naan or khamiri roti this dish has every bit of Indian flavours.

Required ingredients

  • 500 gram mutton
  • 2 medium sized onions (thickly sliced)
  • 3-4 whole red chillies
  • 2 tsp ginger and garlic paste
  • 1 ½ turmeric powder
  • 3 garlic cloves crushed
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil (can use any other oil, but tastes best in mustard oil)

Muslin Pouch:

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick

Directions & How to

  • Tie up all the ingredients for the pouch in the muslin cloth.
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan.
  • Add crushed garlic when it sizzles, add bay leaves and sauté.
  • Add mutton and fry very well for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add ginger, garlic paste, cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  • Add onions, chillies, turmeric, and salt and stir till onion soften.
  • Add 2 cups of water and muslin pouch and cook it covered till the mutton gets tender (around 40-45 minutes).
  • Once it’s done, take out the pouch and bay leaves.
  • Serve with naan or khameer roti.
