About this recipe

Matar ki tahri is a quick and easy spicy rice dish for all season specially in lunch, which tastes great with curd, pickle and green chutney.

Required ingredients

  • 3 cups lang grain rice
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 black cardamom
  • 8-10 peppercorns
  • 2 medium sized onions, finely sliced
  • 1 tsp. garlic paste
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp. red chilli powder
  • 1 cup green peas
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp. oil

Directions & How to

  • Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes
  • Heat oil in a pan, add greeen chillies, bay leaf, cardamom and peppercorns.
  • As they sizzle in oil add onions and fry till golden.
  • Add garlic paste, saute for a while.
  • Add the tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli power and cook till tomatoes becomes mushy.
  • Add the peas and salt, mix well. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.
  • Now add the strainded rice and add 4 and half cups of water. Cook till rice is done.
  • Serve with your favourite raita, chutney and pickle
