Mince lamb pulao is a delicious and flavourful dish which can be served as main dish.

Required ingredients

For the mince:

  • 500g minced meat
  • 2 medium-sized onions, sliced
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes, sliced
  • 2 tsps. ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp. garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp. red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp. coriander powder
  • 2 tbsp. thick curd
  • 3 tbsp. oil
  • Salt to taste

For the pulao:

  • 400g basmati rice, washed and soaked for 15 minutes
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Few mace strands
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 7-8 black peppercorns
  • 3-4 green cardamom
  • 1 pinch food colour (red or yellow), dissolved in 1 tbsp. water
  • Salt to taste

Directions & How to

For the mince:

  • Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pan. Add onions and fry till golden.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste, sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add tomatoes and cook till they are mushy.
  • Add minced meat, fry well till it changes colour.
  • Add curd and all the powdered masalas, mix well and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

For the pulao:

  • Boil 1 litre of water in a saucepan with whole garam masala and salt, for 3-4 minutes so that it infuses all the flavours of spices.
  • Add rice and cook till almost done, but not completely cooked.
  • Drain water and take out half of the rice from the saucepan in a separate bowl. Spread the mince over the rice. Cover it with rest of the rice. Add colour. Cover with foil and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Serve after 10 minutes with raita.
