Mutton Coconut Gravy

Mild spicy mutton gravy wherein mutton is cooked in coconut milk along with other spices. Mutton coconut gravy goes well with rice and rice crepes.

Required ingredients

  • 500-700 grams mutton
  • 3 medium onions – sliced
  • 3 medium tomatoes – chopped
  • 5-6 green chilies chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 inch piece cinnamon
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp fennel or saunf powder
  •  2 tbsp cashew nut paste
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk
  • Salt as per taste
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Directions & How to

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon.  When it splutters, add onions and fry till it turns translucent, add tomatoes, chilies and ginger garlic paste and cook it for 7-8 minutes.
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Add meat and cook it on medium heat for 5-7 minutes or till its juices oozes out. Now add a cup of water and pressure cook it till 6-7 whistles or till the meat is cooked through.
  • Open the cooker after the pressure reduces, add coconut milk, cashew nut paste and fennel/saunf powder and simmer it for 3-4 minutes.  Adjust the consistency of the gravy as per your choice, you can add little more water if u want.
  • Serve hot garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
