Matar chat..a delicious and nutritious chaat..boiled matar tossed with spices and chutneys…its a very easy to put together chat that requires very less time…matar chat is almost a must have recipe for ramdaan iftar in UP and any other places in northern India.

Required ingredients

  • 1 cup matar/yellow peas
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp chat masala
  • 1/4 tsp amchur
  • Salt to taste

For garnishing

  • 1 onion - finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chillies - finely chopped
  • Chat masala
  • Green chutney
  • Imli ki chutney
  • Fine sev
  • Chopped coriander leaves

Directions & How to

  • Wash and soak matar over night. Pressure cook it with little salt till done and soft. Matar should be slighlty over cooked and mushy, and if theres any water left then dont drain it.
  • When it cools a little, take it in a mixng bowl. If its too dry then mix little water and bring it to a proper consistency. (consistency should be of thick gravy). Now add chilli powder, cumin n coriander powder, chat masala and amchur and mix well. Check the salt once. If require add more.
  • Transfer it to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped onions, chillies, coriander leaves. Sprinkle chat masala, and fine sev. Drizzle hari/green chutney and imli chutney.
  • Serve.
