Kadhi is a tasty yoghurt based curry,  popular all over India for its tangy and spicy flavour.

Required ingredients

For  The Gravy

  • 3/4th cup of gram flour
  • 2-3 crushed garlic cloves
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 cup sour yoghurt + 750 ml water
  • Salt to taste

For The Dumplings

  • 1 cup gram flour
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  •  1 small onion chopped
  • A pinch of baking soda
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

For Tempering

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  •  1 whole red chilli
  • 7-10 curry leaves
 

Directions & How to

For The Gravy

  • In a deep sauce pan mix all the ingredients for the gravy . Do not let any lumps form.
  • On high heat bring to a boil, while stirring continuously, then lower the heat and cook for about 25-35 minutes or till it thickens stirring occasionally.

For The Dumplings

  • Mix gram flour with water to form a thick batter. Beat well for 3-4 minutes with an electric beater.[ To check besan is well beaten,  add 1 drop of batter in a glass of water, it should float on top]
  • Mix onion chillies and salt
  • Heat the oil , drop spoonfuls of batter and fry till golden brown and crisp. Keep aside.

For tempering

  • When kadhi is ready add the dumplings
  • Heat oil, add red chilli, when it sizzles and changes colour, add cumin and mustard seeds and curry leaves, immediately add it to kadhi and cover.
Serve with boiled  rice.
